Bar stools for counters, rails and high tops
A stool carries a guest through a long evening at the counter, the rail or the high top, and its height, back and footrest decide whether the guest stays. This hub gathers guidance on pairing stools with surfaces, spacing them and choosing covers that clean well.
Measure the wall, then the table
Heights come first. Counter stools of 24 to 26 inches sit under a surface of about 34 to 36 inches, and bar stools of 29 to 31 inches belong under about 40 to 42. Spacing follows, then the back, the footrest and the cover. Measure the surface you have before you choose the stool.
