Table tops
A solid wood top is the part of the table a guest touches all evening. 2 are listed here: a butcher block top 1 1/2 inches thick and a mixed species top 2 inches thick, each in a choice of stains and sizes. Choose the size from the party, then the stain, then the base the top will rest on.
Thickness on the butcher block is 1 1/2 inches, and it comes as a rectangle, a square, a round or a drop leaf. The mixed species top is 2 inches thick, and its page lists sizes but no shape, so confirm the shape you need with a specialist. The two start around $141 and $223.
Sizes begin at 24 by 24 inches, or 24 inches round, and both tops run up to a 60-inch round or a 30 by 72 rectangle. The butcher block offers seven stains, from Natural and Cherry through Walnut and Dark Walnut to Mahogany, Dark Mahogany and Black. The mixed species top offers the same list without Black. A stain outside these lists is a special-order finish, which takes longer, and once such an order is confirmed it is final.
A top sits on its base, and the thickness joins the base height. A 28-inch standard base under the butcher block gives a surface 29 1/2 inches high, and under the mixed species top 30. Both land inside the usual range of 29 to 30 inches. A 41-inch bar base lifts the surface to 42 1/2 or 43, a little above the usual bar range of 40 to 42, so check the stool height when you pair them.
Choose the base from standard table bases or bar-height table bases, and make sure its spread reaches two thirds of the top's width. The solid wood butcher block tabletop and the wood table surface are the two listings.
Both tops are listed for indoor use. Solid wood moves with the seasons and the humidity of the room, and that natural movement is outside the warranty. Solid wood tops are covered for six months against defects in materials and workmanship, as the warranty page explains. Keep the care instructions from the product page with the order.
For other woods and finishes, see wood table tops. A table sold with its base is in table sets.
